This 1938 Packard Twelve Coupe-Roadster is Packard’s top of the line glamor car that year – and this one looks great in black with maroon leather interior. The 473 Cubic inch V-12 runs great after a valve job at well known Packard Specialist Scott Henningsen’s shop,  and it is a delightful car to drive!

Black really works for this roadster!

Rumbleseat, dual sidemounts, trippe lights,  Cormorant hood ornament, and sidemount mirrors!

Trunk rack for those tours and CAR-A-VANS.  It’s obviously a CCCA full Classic, as well as welcome in the AACA, and the Packard Club.

Wonderful in profile.  Let’s review why the late Packard Twelve is one of the best driving Classic Cars ever built – There’s the 160 Horsepower 473 Cubic inch engine, with torque like a steam locomotive. There’s the silky smooth synchro-mesh 3 speed transmission. There’s the independent front suspension and powerful hydraulic brakes. And the wonderful Bragg-Kliesrath vacuum power brake and power clutch assist, which make pushing those big pedals a pleasure instead of a chore.  Take a drive with me in the videotape just below!

It’s very much of the late 1930’s streamline moderne era, – the way they did the fenderline and sidemounts give the effect of making a tall car look much lower and more sleek.  And of course the super low top when folded down helps the look too.

Looks great in any setting!

Here it is with the top raised.

High quality top, showing just a bit of age.

Note the radiator shutters just starting to open.  When the car is warmed up they open all the way, just like they’re supposed to.

A great shot of the Cormorant

Very nice leather interior, in maroon.  The finish on this leather is very authentic, it’s a smoother texture more like the original leather was.

Very high quality upholstery,  although it was done a while back and shows a bit of wear.

The black and maroon work great together!

The ’38 senior  Packard dashboard is one of the all time great dashboards – 5 dials rimmed in chrome and accented by chrome ribbed background – WOW!

Nice Banjo steering wheel with Packard crest horn button.  I noticed the temperature gauge doesn’t seem to register, and possibly the gas gauge isn’t working.

’38 only ribbed doorhandles and window cranks

There it is, the 473 Cubic inch V-12.  Fresh from a valve job, and it runs great!  They put a gorgeous porcelain intake and exhaust manifold on it too!

Open that hood and draw a crowd !

The paint looks like it was done in lacquer, and so it has some age showing, some crack lines show up in various places.  You would miss points at a judged show,  but the car still presents well and looks good.
