Here is a beautifully restored 1938 Packard Super 8 Touring sedan, a full CCCA Classic, with extensive restoration work documented by receipts, and proven worthy by participation in several CCCA CAR-A-Vans!

It looks just right in Packard Blue with light blue pinstriping!  Note the diamondback whitewall radial tires!  Also note the Cormorant hood ornament, sidemounts, sidemount mirrors and trunk rack.

Delightful!  All of that chrome plating is in excellent condition!

I love those bullet shaped finned headlight shells,  the perfect late 1930’s streamlined theme.

Excellent sidemounts with the proper covers, stainless trim  and sidemount mirrors.

Nicely done top insert

Just exactly as it should be!

The interior is spectacular, and I would say almost flawless.  It is done in the proper wool broadcloth,  it has the proper 1938 pattern,  and it looks like it did when it sat in the Packard Dealer’s showroom.  That steering wheel is restored and beautiful, the dashboard looks like new.  It is amazingly nice in here!

Wow!  the ’38 / 39 Senior dashboard is a particular favorite of mine, I love how these instruments march along the chrome rails on the dash.  And, the gauges are in wonderful condition, and they work, too.  Also working are the dash lights when you turn on the headlights.

A beautiful Packard “Super Deluxe” heater.

And the Packard radio box and speaker.  I think the radio isn’t working right now.

Note the 1938 Only ribbed pattern on the sun visor clamps. That theme is carried through all the doorhandles and window cranks.

Here’s what I’m talking about on the door hardware, a unified design theme.

And the outside doorhandles too!

Rear compartment just like new.  I mean it, the interior quality and workmanship is extremely high.

Beautiful !

This engine has been completely – and expensively – and recently – rebuilt by people who know how, the craftsmen at Ronnie’s Garage.  They do the restoration work for several noted local collectors.  I have to say after viewing and operating this engine, their work product is of the first rank.  That engine is smooth, it idles down to some ridiculously low RPM, and has every single one of the 130 Horsepower that Packard originally intended.   All of the work receipts on this car are included, over $35,000 in recent mechanical work over the last 4 or 5 years.  I would take this car on tour without hesitation right now.

Excellent and correct finishes,  look how nice the porcelain is on the exhaust manifold!

More beautiful engine finish – note the proper hoseclamps, the right decals, and the correct wiring harness done during restoration.

Wow!

Here’s a better view of the manifold porcelain.

Beautiful – and brand new – radiator core.  Note the thermostatic shutter control, working as it should.

Headlights – and all the other lights – work great.

We haven’t seen the right side of the car yet, so here it is! Just as beautiful as the left side.

Lovely!

This photo shows a couple of things that need to be mentioned.  The paint shows a bit of age,  there is some checking and sand marks showing here and there.  and, some of the glass, being original, has delaminated a bit around the edges, you can see that in this photo.  There’s also a delaminated portion on the right side windshield.

1938 was a tough year for Packard identification numbers.  The factory responded to dealer complaints about having to remove, stamp, and re-install the firewall  data plates by coming up with an inkstamped sticker process that was supposed to be easier.  this process was one of Packard’s few bad ideas, and it only lasted for the 1938 Sixteenth series.  As the cars aged, the inkstampings became illegible.  Because of this issue, when this car came to California, it was issued a California assigned VIN # that you see here, the Car is titled to that number.

The receipt binder is nicely organized.

And nicely summarized!

Not only was the engine rebuilt, but it has been on tour afterwards,  so the work has been proven !

Ready for touring and enjoyment right now!
