The Flagship of the Cadillac line in ’54 – with only 2150 Eldorados built, a super rare car! And this one is a nice, straight, solid, rust free California car, from an estate. Runs good and drives nice as you can see in the video below!
The Eldorado had all of the flash, including the quarter panel trim, the parade boot, and extra emblems and special interior touches that let you know that you just paid $5738 for it in 1954 Dollars!
The chrome plating is very good overall. the prior owners apparently had some of it, but not all of it redone.
Although it’s been stored for quite some time, it woke up very easily, with an obviously recent gas tank reconditioning, and a good running engine, good brakes and properly operating 4 speed hydramatic transmission.
And there it is with the top up. The power windows all work great.
that’s a black California license plate, with current registration! If it stays in California, the plates stay with the car.
The car is nice and straight and rust free, and it looks like it’s had one paint job a long, long time ago. The paint isn’t quite as good as it looks in the photos.
The Steering wheel is excellent, the dashpad is very nice, and the gauges are in good shape.
The seats were redone a long time ago in vynil. Believe it or not, the carpeting is still the original!
The lower dashboard had the special Eldorado pattern on it – as you can see here, the glovebox has aged more than the rest.
Inside windshield trim is excellent. The visors are tired, though.
Here’s the detail of the back side of the front seat. Note the split on the corner. Also note the original carpet and heel pad for the driver
Here’s the 331 Cubic Inch Cadillac V-8, with 230 Horsepower! It runs great, and appears to have had some recent work done. The radiator looks fresh, too. Although I don’t have work receipts, the former owner had this car for a very long time, it was always kept indoors, and run periodically. Unfortunately, the service records were lost in the estate.
Note the correct air cleaner, 4 barrel Rochester carburetor, windshield washer bottle, and Autronic Eye electrical box on the driver’s inner fenderwell.
The Chrome doorhandle guard, the Cadillac Crest, and the extruded aluminum trim were all special Eldorado pieces.
Purists will note that the trim has had some screws installed – the screws shouldn’t be there. Although the car is super solid and rust free, I bet the special clips weren’t available back when the paint was done, so, voila, phillips head screws.
Here’s another view of the parade boot.
Another view of the front seats, done in vinyl, and showing some age. Although the interior should be redone, it’s useable as is for a “restore while you drive it” type of effort.
A super solid California car, one that runs and drives well now, and that you could restore while you drive! although it needs some work, it is a super basis for a restoration, with all of the special Eldorado pieces present, and a living , breathing automobile right now!
