This 1970 Porsche 911E Targa is a wonderful car – one that has been lovingly cared for its entire life by one devoted owner,  who kept it in excellent condition, kept it to only 83,000 miles, kept it out of accidents and out of the body shop, kept it serviced at only qualified dealers and Porsche specialist repair shops,  and kept it away from rust!  It’s so nice that it looks like a 2 year old car, not a 51 year old car, and it would astonish and delight the judges in any Concours d’Elegance preservation class!

Yes. The actual original interior.

IMG_8263.

Yes. The actual original engine.  Which has been maintained by Porsche dealers and specialists since it was new!

IMG_8316.

The Original owner bought this car new as an Arizona College student – for $10,312.63 from Ted McWilliams Porsche Audi in Monroeville, Pennsylvania (near Pittsburgh, PA. )  His family lived in Pennsylvania, so on a trip home his senior year he stepped up with an inheritance and bought the Porsche.  After his home visit he drove it back to Arizona for his final year at school.

The original sales contract

IMG_8323.

That guy on the upper left, Irvin L. Bachmann II signed the contract for Ted McWilliams Porshe-Audi.

IMG_8317.

The flyer for Ted McWilliams Porsche-Audi is great – and includes a full page of explanation of the new to the US brand of Audi.

IMG_8232.

Perfect stance, and original Fuchs forged aluminum wheels.

IMG_8227.

It’s beautiful in Burgundy, color code 2410, which we’ll see later on the door pillar.

IMG_8225.

Nice and straight, and excellent panel fit.

IMG_8222.

Gorgeous

IMG_8282.

The Targa top is a great feature – you really get the convertible sensation, without the wind backlash from a fully open car.

IMG_8285.

Lovely!

IMG_8236.

Brushed stainless Targa band and gold trim Targa script!  Bling!

IMG_8223.

The Porsche Burgundy is a subtle color, it really comes alive in the bright sunlight.

IMG_8264.

Beautiful!

IMG_8244.

The door pillar VIN sticker,  required by the US in 1970.

IMG_8291.

The interior is spectacular, and original!

IMG_8295.

Note the factory Air conditioning controller below the dash to the right.  It makes cold air right now!

IMG_8254.

Perfect rear compartment.

IMG_8250.

And with the seats folded down for package shelf.

IMG_8240.

The seat foam was replaced a few years ago because of the Arizona heat.  Of course, the seat material itself is the original.  This is the essence of preservation – keep the car in beautiful and operational condition, and tread lightly on repairs, with maximum attention to originality. The driver’s side front carpet shows some wear.

IMG_8243.

Excellent original doorpanels

IMG_8252.

The targa top was redone , due to age.  It looks and operates perfectly now.

IMG_8256.

Excellent seat backs, shown here in the forward position.

IMG_8245.

Here’s that Burgundy paint code 2410 we mentioned earlier

IMG_8260.

The 2.2 liter Porsche “E” engine – the “E” is for Einspritzen,  or Fuel Injection.  Also note the A/C compressor.  This car was originally equipped with Air Conditioning, and it’s fully operational and nice and cold.  The original compressor is included with the sale, in case the new owner wants to have it rebuilt for authenticity.

IMG_8259.

Well cared for over the years, with receipts to prove it.

IMG_8318.

A thorough history of the maintenance work.

IMG_8293.

The 83k miles are correct, and the work receipts back it up.  There were a couple of times the speedometer quit working and had to be repaired as shown in the receipts, but the owner said each time he had it fixed right away, and the variance is no more than 150 miles total.

IMG_8262.

Nice!

IMG_8303.

Beautiful rust free pan

IMG_8304.

Solid suspension points, just as an Arizona car should have!

IMG_8305.

Perfect.

IMG_8302.

No signs of collision damage – because there have been no collisions!

IMG_8309.

Excellent

IMG_8311.

The engine and trans-axle.  I noticed an oil leak onto the driver side exhaust.

IMG_8307.

The Hydro-Pneumatic suspension, standard on the “E” was shelved in favor of the standard shock tower shown here.

IMG_8273.

Nice clean luggage compartment

IMG_8275.

Fuchs spare

IMG_8277.

Undamaged original sheetmetal – this is where you look to see if there’s been front end damage, and this one is perfect, un-hit and undamaged.  looks like some super light surface rust in the bottom of the tire well.

IMG_8319.

Nice original tool kit

IMG_8266.
original glass, in excellent condition.  The outline of the original “2.2” window sticker is still there!  This sticker was mentioned in Zimmerman’s book “The used 911 Story”.

IMG_8268.

The artwork was the same as the owner’s manual.

IMG_8269.

Beautiful!

IMG_8272.

Excellent lenses.  Note some rock chips on the bumper and fender.

IMG_8237.

these rock chips show why some Porsche owners bought front bras for their cars.  I say they are a badge of honor, showing the car was driven!

IMG_8271.

Excellent lens.

IMG_8279.

A little dimple in the driver quarter panel.

IMG_8283.

driving it with the Targa top off is superb!

IMG_8287.

Tremendous! It should be noted that the license plate will stay with the former owner, it’s a sentimental thing.

IMG_8289.

The Michelin XWX’s are near new, purchased in 2016 and with less than 2,000 miles travelled since installation.

IMG_8299.

The lights work of course.

IMG_8286.

Great from any angle!
