Here is the 1947 Cadillac 60 Special by Fleetwood. This car had a number of unique features, including the special roof and windowline, the Chrome Chevrons on the rear roof pillar, a 4 inch longer wheelbase, and 2 inch longer rear doors. The 60 Special was in essence a small limousine, with extra room for the rear passengers, and a wider rear door. It was a Fleetwood body, rather than the standard Cadillac. They only built 8,500 60 Specials that year.
This car is nicely equipped, with Hydramatic transmission, Radio, Heater/Defroster, fog lights and whitewall tires.
The chrome plating – and there is a lot of chrome plating – is excellent.
This car is a proven CCCA CAR-Avan tour car. It has lots of power, you can drive it on the freeway and keep up with traffic!
I had the car professionally color sanded and buffed, and it really made the paint job look great! It is a very pretty car.
Cadillac had the dramatic postwar styling that struck a chord with America. This car is super solid and rust free.
The paint is really nice and smooth now!
The interior is beautiful, done in the original pattern, but with modern cloth fabric. The dashboard and gauges are lovely.
Excellent doorpanels and doorjambs.
Wow ! The guages work, and there are also modern style gauges to the lower right for more accurate readings. The car operates beautifully, starts right up, runs smooth, lots of power, and the hydramatic operation is very nice indeed. It has an electric fuel pump, operated by the little toggle switch just below the headlight switch.
The steering wheel was restored but it’s getting some hairline cracks again. The horn ring and emblem are very nice.
the radio works, in AM only mode. I believe the radio is from an Oldsmobile – fits and works, but slightly different face. The Chrome radio surround has some very slight pitting.
Also note the working courtesy lamp in the ceiling.
The 60 Special had this fixed rear bulkhead, with footrests below and robe rail.
This Rolltop desk style contraption is actually the combination ashtray and cigarette lighter. The Cigarette lighter still works, too.
Here’s the great running Cadillac Flathead V-8 Engine! The wiring was redone with plastic wires, but they did a good job, everything works!
Clean engine. The 6 volt battery sits below the vent hose.
Recently rebuilt fuel pump and water pump.
The Cadillac is very, very nice, but it’s not a showcar, there are a few flaws, some I’ve already mentioned. I note a few spots where the paint is a bit thin, you can see this on the lower right fender, below the chrome spear. I also noted a spot like this, although not as significant, on the left side of the hood. There is a small crease at the lower right side of the hood corner, near the door. The hood also requires a pole to keep it open, the hood springs are weak, and so you just need the external brace to keep the hood from falling on you.
