This 1941 Buick Limited 91F Formal Sedan with divider window was Buick’s top of the line car in 1941 – luxurious and powerful transportation designed to compete with- and in my opinion, surpass – Cadillac.  Harlow Curtice, General Manager of Buick, campaigned aggressively  through 1942 to make Buick a luxury leader – eventually the upper GM brass told him to step back and let Cadillac win.  Harlow went on to be president of GM in 1953.

.

This car is an exceptionally original and well preserved car, with original interior and some original paint, a time capsule exhibit showing what it was to have a luxury car in 1941.  And it has been properly maintained, capable of high speed touring. Indeed, it performed brilliantly on the 2017 Arizona CCCA CAR-A-VAN. It is a Full CCCA Classic, eligible for all CCCA Tours and shows, as well as other clubs such as the AACA – Antique Auto Club of America, and Buick Club.

Buick Styling was at it’s peak in 1941, just a bit lower and sleeker than it was in 1940.

IMG_1284.

Lots of chrome to appeal to the eye, and the chrome on this car is in great shape!

IMG_1281.

I like the speed lines at the upper belt and the chassis line, and the great fenderskirt decorations!

IMG_1287.

The paint is very nice, and the bodywork is excellent.  There has been some spot repair in various places as documented in the extensive receipt and photo file, which is of course included with the car.

IMG_1293.

Tasteful and comfortable – yet very modern in it’s driving experience, with LOTS of power from it’s 320 Cubic inch overhead valve straight 8, hydraulic brakes, and independent front suspension.  High speed touring is effortless in this car!

IMG_1297.

A great profile!  And I like the whitewalls, which are brand new whitewall radials. Note that the CCCA has approved the use of whitewall radials as a safety consideration.  The front suspension was also recently refurbished.

Great!

IMG_1306.

Beautiful grille and Buick emblem

IMG_1307.

Nice rubber gravelshield and fenderskirt trim

IMG_1315.

The lap of luxury circa 1941! And this is all original, too!  Note the streamline moderne trim accents on the seat base and the ashtray base.

IMG_1316.

Wow! I love all the detail, the stainless trim lines, the dual pattern woodgrain window reveals, and the Buick emblem!

IMG_1317.

Here’s a look at the divider window bulkhead. You’ll note there are no jumpseats, this is a 5 passenger car – actually, the factory rated it as a six passenger, 3 in front, 3 in back.

IMG_1318.

Here’s the rimless curved divider window, which operates perfectly with an electric motor lift, operable by a switch on either side of the rear seat.

IMG_1345.

This beautiful streamline moderne console holds the ashtray , the divider window switch, a cigar lighter, and a little leather bound notepad.

IMG_1319.

Original and spectacular!

IMG_1324.

Let’s move to the amazing driver’s compartment! Chrome, engine turned panels, beautiful instruments, and rich, lustrous plastics, the wonder material of 1941!

IMG_1328.

Beautiful gauge faces!

IMG_1326.

That is one flashy glovebox door!

IMG_1335.

Buick Sonomatic Radio, and the speaker grille flanked by electrical switches!

IMG_1330.

Amazing! And amazingly nice!

IMG_1341.

Front seat is original and remarkably good.

IMG_1342.

Fisher body tag on the seat. Note the working courtesy light at the front edge of the seat.

IMG_1338.

The original front driver’s carpeting has a bit of distress, looks like a floormat did some damage. We keep another floormat over it.

IMG_1343.

More working courtesy lights, these are operated by a switch.

IMG_1346.

I love the dual tone woodgraining!

IMG_1352.

Buick Fireball Dynaflash Eight!  And this one really runs great!

IMG_1351.

Stock and authentic, just the way we like it.

IMG_1350.

There is the key to big horsepower – a free breathing compound carburetion setup which Buick introduced in 1941.

IMG_1349.

Stock and authentic.  My judgement is that the wiring harness must have been redone with correct cloth backed wires a while back.

IMG_1356.

Excellent!

IMG_1354.

Here’s the trim tag on the cowl.

IMG_1357.

Brand new radial tires.

IMG_1308.

Nice trunk with proper liner.

IMG_1288.

A beautiful Original Full Classic in a fully useable, beautiful state of preservation!
