This 1940 Cadillac 60 Special is beautifully restored, a Classic Car Club of America first place winner in National competition in 1986, and in excellent condition throughout! It has been properly maintained and stored, and is just recently in from Sunny and dry Palm Springs! It is nicely equipped with Dual Sidemounts, Radio, Dual heater – dash AND underneath the seat – defroster, vacuum antenna, and factory equipped turn signals!
The Cadillac 60 Special was GM Stylist Bill Mitchell’s early masterpiece – a personal luxury car, intended for the owner-driver, on a reasonably sized chassis and with all of the high quality and luxury that was expected in a Cadillac! The body was constructed by Fleetwood, Cadillac’s custom body outfit.
Absolutely beautiful! The correct metallic green paint is accented by lovely chrome!
Double bar bumperguards are a nice touch!
That grille is the epitome of the streamline modern school of design . It’s nice and shiny, although there are some small pits at the edges.
Beautiful paint, chrome, and tail light lenses – the correct glass ones !
Beautiful paint, chrome and emblems.
Excellent whitewall radials – they really make a difference in the driving experience compared to bias ply tires. You can also see how nicely the doors fit in this photo.
Wow is this car nice !
The interior is beautifully done in the correct whipcord and leather trim.
Gorgeous dashboard and Steering wheel. The radio does work !
Looks like new from the driver’s viewpoint!
The dashboard is beautiful!
Beautiful headliner and properly trimmed sunvisors
The interior is excellent – proper materials, straight stitching, and nice wool carpeting on the floor!
Doorpanels, handles and trim exactly as they should be
Fleetwood step plates – original and in very good condition. Not perfect but good.
Those doors fit perfectly ! Also note the deep reflections in the paint!
Perfect door fit on the driver’s side too! Also note the nice rubber gravel shield on the rear fender !
Nice clean trunk area, solid and rust free too. the weatherstripping channel, often a rust victim, is in excellent rust free condition on this car!
Nice!
The 346 Cubic inch flathead V-8 runs great! Nice, quiet, good oil pressure. I can tell it has been driven some since it was a CCCA trophy winner in 1986, but it’s nice and clean and presentable under the hood!
Here’s the passenger side of the engine. All stock and correct. It really is a good running car!
Classic Car Club of America badge # 1236. That was won in 1986, and this restoration was done so well that it has stood the test of time! It still looks great!
Here’s the Letter from the CCCA that documents the First place trophy
And here it is nicely featured in the Classic Car Club of America Book, “The Classic Car” by Beverly Rae Kimes, published in 1990. 6 Photos and almost the entire 2 page spread devoted to this very car!
.
Another view of the Engine. The car runs and drives great! My only caveat is the transmission likes to be shifted slowly into 3’d gear – if you shift too fast, you’ll get a snick.
Here’s the trim tag . Also note the correctly restored wiring using the cloth insulation.
A beautiful car ready for club events and touring! Although maybe not a top show winner today, the excellent quality of the restoration is evident, and the car would be welcome at any of the shows, tours and events today !
