The 1934 Packard 1107 V-12 Club Sedan was the epitome of the luxurious closed car in 1934.  A short-coupled design for 5 passengers, the balanced styling and blind rear quarter makes it the best looking Sedan of the Classic Era!

.

Beautiful.  Just beautiful.  Packard got the styling just right in 1934, with beautiful V radiator, V-shaped headlight lenses, and fins on the headlamps and parking lamps. The skirted fenders were a precursor of streamlining.  What a spectacular design!

.

This car has a good history all the way back to the 1960’s, when it was owned by a hobbyist in Pennsylvania.  Bob Turnquist’s shop did a sympathetic restoration, including engine rebuild and paint and chrome sometime in the 1960’s, and he sold it to the most recent California owner in 1971.  I remember this car from SoCal Region CCCA events and Grand Classics back into the 1970’s, including the 1977 Grand Classic in Santa Barbara, CA.

.

The Data plate is the original one issued by Packard and stamped by Packard Inc., Philadelphia PA. The engine number fits correctly in the 1934 Engine number sequence.  This car is listed in Ed Blend’s Book,  “the Magnificent Packard Twelve of 1934”.  This car is as real, and authentic, and original as it can be!

.

Here we see the radiator shutters, which work properly with the thermostatic actuator.  This car runs nice and cool, and it starts right up after it’s been driven, too! Also note the big, heavy, V-12 Vibration damping bumpers.

.

Look how straight the body is, and how nicely the doors fit.  Also note the dual pinstriping in the factory pattern.

.

More straight body panels, and a blue California license plate.  Nice!

.

Trunk rack and heavy V-12 bumper. The ’34 Club sedan had an integral trunk also.

.

The Packard Twelve had a special tail light with a blue center, which when Illuminated gave an orange / pink glow.  They were the original blue dots!  And, it was a subtle way of proclaiming that this car was better than everything else on the road!

.

Although the paint was done in the 1960’s,  there are some signs of age, cracks,  chips and the like.  It’s not a fresh paint job, but it was high quality when it was done.

.

The mighty Packard V-12. 445 Cubic inches. Tremendous. Unbelievably smooth and powerful.

.

An important feature on this car – Cast Iron cylinder heads.  Most Packard Twelves have Aluminum cylinder heads, which are victims of electrolytic corrosion.  This car has the super desirable cast iron heads.

.

Here’s the generator side.  Note the Purolator oil filter.  Also note the coils have been changed out for modern units.

.

In case anyone wondered what the reservoir with green fluid is, it’s been labeled with that plastic lettering that I haven’t seen since about 1975!

.

More important are these factory original stampings, that show the correct body type – 736 means V-12 Club Sedan 1107 – and 72 is the sequential production number of this body type.  Packard Inc Philadelphia had a nice method of stamping their dealer information, they must have had a fixture to do it. On this plate, the only hand stamping is the delivery date.

.

Let’s climb in to the unbelievably good original interior!  The fabric is still strong, and it has survived the years amazingly well.

.

Astonishingly good!

.

Excellent original doorpanel and wood window trim!

.

Wonderful rear compartment

.

Tremendous original seats!

.

Wonderful headlining also!

.

Sunvisors too!  Look at that wood windshield surround !

.

Pretty dash.

.

Excellent original dash and instruments. They work properly, too. It runs cool, and has good oil pressure – 30 to 45 PSI running warm, and 17 PSI at idle warm.  There is an intermittent valve lifter click / noise, but the car runs really nice and smooth.   the 14,000 miles showing has surely rolled over, we don’t claim that mileage as original.

.

How about that art deco Packard Heater?

.

Packard Model S-1 Safety light – otherwise known as a Spotlight!

.

And it works, too!

.

The Steering wheel emblem. Isn’t that nice?

.

The trunk liner has been decorated with dash plaques from many shows and events from long ago, and some shows that have gone on to the great lawn in the sky, like LeCercle, the Show Car Finals,  CHVA, and Movieworld Cars of Stars.

.

That door line shot is wonderful. These doors fit beautifully!

.

This is a delightful car with great history, authenticity and enjoyability!
