This 1929 LaSalle Sport Phaeton is the Best of the Best in every way.  It was beautifully restored by a Cad-LaSalle Marque specialist, and has racked up an impressive string of show victories! Classic Car Club First Place – 100 points –  at the Annual Meeting 2002,  and the senior ring at 100 points at the 2004 Grand Classic.  Cad-LaSalle Club Senior badge 2002,  Best LaSalle at the Cadillac-LaSalle Club Grand National meet 2004  and 3’d place in Class at Pebble Beach in 2002.  And, in case you think the car is just a show pony, it has successfuly completed a CCCA Car-A-Van .  It’s still fresh looking, since the owner is obsessive about post-show and post-tour maintenance.  This car could go out and win more trophies right now!

.

This car is a known authentic Sport Phaeton, it has the build sheet documenting it’s correctness, and pre-restoration it was remarkably well-preserved, complete, and in good condition.  All the numbers match, and it is unquestionably a real, authentic, original Dual Cowl Sport Phaeton!

.

Here it is as it emerged from the garage in 1989,  after having been stored for many decades.  The famous Jack Passey was responsible for finding the car.

.

The black paint with red undercarriage is both striking and a known authentic LaSalle color treatment!  All LaSalle Sport Phaetons had the runningboard mounted spotlight.

.

This was a styling masterpiece – the emergence of Harley Earl on the world stage as a brilliant designer.  Compare this car with most others of 1929,  and you’ll see how sleek and advanced it was.

.

this picture illustrates how straight the body is – it should be noted that this car came to the restorer with the original paint still on it. It was as straight and nice as it was when it left the factory.  Only a tiny bit of lead was used  on  the rear fender beads!  Otherwise, there is no filler on the car!  Black shows it all, and it shows beautifully!  It was done in Nitrocellulose Lacquer.

.

As-found, the car had it’s original paint – AND pinstriping, so they were able to match the pinstripes exactly, both on the hood louvers and the body molding line.

.

The single Pilot Ray, which moves with the direction of the front wheels, is a great touch. The Chrome Plating on this car is spectacular.

.

The Piece de Resistance of the sport phaeton, the rear cowl and windshield to protect the rear seat passengers from the wind!  The Great Gatsby wouldn’t have allowed his passengers to be uncomfortable, and neither should you!

.

Note the pivot and lock knob on the windshield, with matching devices on the rear windshield.  Both windshields can be folded flat for a super sporting look!  You might want to use goggles if you took advantage of that feature!   Another nice feature are the dual cowl vents.

.

Nice trunk mount with fitted luggage!  Note the dual rear tail lamps.

.

that’s an excellent original trunk with fitted luggage, and felt-lined divider shelves.  the top boot, which is stored in the trunk, is also shown.

.

The interior beautifully and correctly finished in dark red leather.  It’s a little darker in person that it shows in the photos.  Also note the gear shift lever – 1929 was the first year for SYNCHRO-MESH in Cadillac and LaSalle – that’s important because you DON’T have to double-clutch it,  it shifts as easily and cleanly as a modern car!

.

The rear compartment, again, beautifully and correctly done.

.

This view shows the storage compartment in the closed position.  In the right foreground is the dual cowl support hinge.

.

The Dual Cowl has a built-in mirror to help with any passenger hair / makeup issues that might arise from riding  in the car!

.

The bracket near the doorhandle is a slot for the center cowl support.

.

Top and top bows look like new.

.

Here’s a marker of a beautiful top show car – immaculate, sharp and crisp step plates.

.

Each one of these instruments – including the clock – work properly.  And they look beautiful, too.

.

That is the best looking and best running LaSalle V-8 you ever saw!  Completely rebuilt, and in excellent operational and cosmetic condition!

.

The red dot on the right is the oil fill level indicator, showing “Full”  obviously.  The red dot on the left is the reflection of the indicator in the flawlessly finished firewall.

.

Detail, Detail, Detail. Incredibly clean and correct.

.

The driver’s side is also beautifully finished.  Note the perfect porcelain on the manifolds, and the white heat shielding on the exhaust pipe below.  Also note the nickel plating on the various fuel and oil lines.

.

The Vacuum tank looks great, and has the proper lines in and out.  However, it has been updated to allow a full time electric fuel pump to push the fuel through it.

.

Couldn’t be any better.

.

The correct appearing oil filter can – except, it has been upgraded internally to allow a spin-on filter.  You’d never know the difference outside.

.

Beautiful undercarriage

.

Super detail.  note the Pilot ray actuator arm, and the hydraulic shock absorber.  Even Duesenberg didn’t have Hydraulic shocks in 1929!

.

Spectacular underneath!

.

Nice Leather Spring covers

.

The state of detail underneath really couldn’t be any better.

.

Here is the original build sheet for the car, which was obtained from Cadillac Historic Services.  At the top right corner is the Engine number, which of course matches this car.  In the lower section we have body number 35, and engine unit number of 4-4812.  We’ll show photos of these numbers just below.

.

Engine number 404389

.

There’s the engine unit number, correct for the car.

.

Job No. 1185 .  The body number 35 is in large stamping to the right of Fisher Body corp.   Every piece of wood in this car is the original, nothing was replaced.

.

There’s the body tag, with Job No. 1185 B,  and body No. 35.

.

And here’s a California Registration Slip from 1951 !

.

First Place CCCA at the Annual Meeting, 2002 with a 100 point score! Then, the senior ring was acheived at the CCCA Grand Classic in 2004, with another 100 Points!

.

Cadillac-LaSalle Club Senior Badge from 2002.

.

And there it is on the Ramp at Pebble Beach in 2002, where it got a 3’d in Class.
