This 1922 Pierce-Arrow coupe-Sedan was beautifully restored.  The work done was very high quality, and the car has proven itself on the Modoc tour a number of years ago.  It’s still in excellent condition, and is ready to enjoy right now! Scroll down through the photos and you’ll see a car that was properly done and has held up beautifully!

This was the big Pierce-Arrow for 1922, with a giant T-head 6 cylinder, with  4 valves per cylinder, dual delco ignition, and modern styling.

This Pierce-Arrow was the height of luxury and refinement in 1922.

IMG_8516.

Note the Pierce-Arrow trademark, the headlamps faired into the fenders, and the trunk that matches the curve of the rear fender!

Biflex bumper in nickel plating, and nickel headlight rims and radiator shell. It has the correct honeycomb core radiator, and on my photo drive on a hot day it cooled the car admirably.

Very nice engine bay. Note the cast aluminum fan blade – looks like an aircraft propeller!

IMG_8535.

Also note the priming cups.  Back when this car was new, the gasoline was very poor, and low octane, so Pierce-Arrow provided a number of features to help the car fire up in cold weather – including a pressure feed of gasoline directly to the intake manifold!  It’s visible mounted to the center of the manifold, controlled by a knob on the dashboard. There was also exhaust heat ported through the block to a section of the carburetor!

Here’s the passenger side , showing the 3 piece exhaust manifold in porcelain.  We recently tuned this car up, with new spark plugs, condensors, point cleaning and a carburetor adjustment to factory specifications. The result is a car that starts easily cold or warm, and drives nicely!

IMG_8538.

Also note the bronze water pump housing. It works great and doesn’t leak!  This shot also shows the Pierce-Delco generator, with the original bakelite knobs to secure the wires.

IMG_8537.

the aluminum housing surrounding the exhaust manifold is the heat stove for the carburetor.  Today, most of the Pierce-Arrow guys close off the heat tube that goes through the block, since today’s gasoline is so much more volatile than the old 66 Octane stuff available in 1922!

The interior is properly done in striped wool broadcloth, and looks great!

Excellent original headlamp lenses

This is a great feature, the combination courtesy lamp and vent!  There’s a corresponding vent outlet on the roof.  This car was made for when people wore hats and smoked cigars as a matter of course!
