This 1965 Rambler Ambassador is the top of the line car, with the most luxurious options and features available!  It’s the desirable 2 door hardtop body style, and, best of all, It has been in one family’s care since it was purchased new in Texas in 1965!  They took excellent care of this car, maintaining it properly and giving it some very expensive service, such as a rebuilt engine,  rear axle,  and much more!

.

It’s beautiful in the original color of Frost White and 2 toned blue interior, a combination of dark blue and aqua that is very pleasing

.

this is the actual original window sticker, when Mr. John Hargrove of Ft. Worth, Texas bought the car new!

.

$3828 .15 was a lot of dough in 1965 !

.

I love the profile of this car, especially with all the windows down!  This car is Officially the Rambler Ambassador 990 H.  Note the nice tailights with extra chrome trim, the trim on top of the fenders, the full Ambassador only wheelcovers,  and some other things not visible in this photo. 287 V-8 Engine!   Bucket Seats! Factory Air Conditioning! Power Steering and brakes! Padded sunvisors! Automatic Transmission!  Heater! Radio!  As you can see it’s luxuriously equipped,  much nicer than the run of the mill Rambler!

.

And here is the original Warranty card in the original owner’s manual!  I love it when these delivery documents survive!

.

.

That’s the original chrome and trim, and it’s in excellent condition!

.

The Vice President of Automotive Sales of Rambler sent Mr. Hargrove a letter, thanking him for “Choosing Rambler for ’65!”

.

.

Quad Stacked Headlights,  de riguer for the luxury car of the 1960’s !  Cadillac Had ’em, and so do we!

.

Nice !

.

.

Although 1986 might seem like a long time ago, the engine was completely rebuilt with .030 overbore then.  And, it has only travelled 13,000 miles since !  It’s nice to have this documentation of the mechanical work.  And, i can tell you the car runs beautifully, that engine runs great!

.

More recently, in 2001, the rear axle and torque tube were out and rebuilt.

.

.

The paint job looks pretty recent, and it’s a good commercial paint job in the original color, and color sanded and buffed, and looks sharp. Not perfect but  nice.

.

Another great Ambassador Feature – the 6 bar trunk trim that matches the tail lights!  And those tail lights are beautiful too, nice and clear.

.

Nice tail lights!  The chrome is really good original on the bumpers and trunk trim.

.

this car has one of the nicest original interiors I’ve seen in a long time!  It’s just gorgeous!

.

Excellent doorpanels with beautiful wood trim accents.

.

The steering wheel is awesome, with brilliant colors and no cracks!  This car was garaged for most of it’s life, and it shows!

.

Wow!  Almost like being at the Rambler dealer!

.

Another sign of the car leading a good life – excellent seat backs, done in plastic, that are sharp and clean. Also note – Bucket seats!

.

When we got the car, we had the front seat cushion bottoms re-done in the exact original fabric from SMS auto trim.  Everything else is original!  The carpeting is awesome for being original, but it does show some age.

.

The back seats are all original, with just a hint of splitting at the center seam, you can see it in this photo.

.

Beautiful dashboard.

.

there’s a teeny crack in the dash, visible in this photo,  a little to the left of the air vent.

.

Another sign of a well treated car – a nice original glovebox.

.

Those foam padded sunvisors were optional, and they’re in excellent condition!

.

The 287 V-8 was completely rebuilt with receipts from 1986.   it’s only clocked about 13,000 miles since the work was done. It runs beautifully, nice, smooth, quiet and powerful.

.

Not show detailed, but all stock and correct.

.

Note the Factory A/C.  It’s all hooked up but doesn’t blow cold air.

.

Gas tank was renewed / sealed, and you can see the clean rear axle housing – the recipient of a recent rebuild. The transmission was done too – it’s a torque tube driveshaft.

.

super solid and rust free, a documented Texas car from new, and then about 15 years in sunny Southern California.

.

Clean and rust free!

.

I noticed some body filler used just ahead of the rear fender opening,.  I also noticed 2 small dings in the left front fender. It’s a good paint job, but not a perfect Pebble Beach quality effort.  A nice car but not a show car.

.

Looks like they tried sealing the rear window gasket with a bit of Silicone.

.

Very clean and original trunk – that’s the original floor mat!  It’s brittle but still the original one!

.

The trunk floopan is the original and really good, although it looks like some surface rust was sanded and painted over .

.

The reason this trunk mat stayed so nice?  they custom made a trunk mat cover from indoor-outdoor carpeting!  So when I threw that stuff out, this is what I found!  I love obsessive original owners!

.

Beautiful Ambassador Hubcaps.  Note the Eagle / Shield symbol of the Ambassador!

.

Here’s a shot with the quarter window raised.

.

As we take the final view, notice the nearly new tires !
